Lewis Milestone’s 1939 version of the John Steinbeck novel, which is largely remembered today for Lon Chaney Jr.’s performance as the feebleminded Lenny; Burgess Meredith plays his cousin who looks after him. Eugene Solow wrote the script, and Aaron Copland received an Academy Award nomination for his score. This is the first Hollywood feature with a precredits sequence.
